Consolidation is an enevitable part of any new market, and consolidation is what is exactly what's happening in the New Zealand Daily Deals market.
There has been a lot of shuffling about amongst daily deals product sites. In the past month we've seen the Warehouse (who run daily deals site Red Alert), buy Torpedo7 to take control of the country's top daily deals site 1day.co.nz. So they now own the largest daily deals site alongside their own, Red Alert.
Interestingly, another popular daily deals site 3Deals has also joined forces with the Warehouse in the past month. It's likely the Warehouse bought out 3Deals. They announced on their facebook page a month ago that they were joining forces with The Warehouse, so it seems 3Deals.co.nz is no longer functional. As 3Deals are probably in the top 4 daily deals sites, the price was likely in the millions. Good on the Warehouse for investing heavily in the online space.
Although, these moves now leave little competition in the daily deal product market. The Warehouse owns the top 3 deals sites: 1day, Red Alert and 3 Deals. Left to fight in opposition is FirstIn who run their own site, and have a partnership with GrabOne to ship their products.
There are a few other sites of a medium size including: DaySale, Off The Back, Snaffles and DealaDay. And of course a couple dozen more smaller sites, including 6Shooter and CrazySales being the larger of the small ones.
